Anyone wishing to take a practical driving test must first take and pass a theory test.
The theory test consists of 50 questions (to be answered in 57 mins) of which 43 must be answered correctly to pass. This is then followed by the Hazard perception test.
During your driver training with dl-driving, Mock Test Papers can be supplied for home study (free of charge) to be marked and discussed on your next lesson.

In addition to the 50 theory questions, candidates must also pass the Hazard Perception test. This takes place straight after the theory test and consists of 14 video clips, each about 1 minute long. In the clips there are 15 hazards (1 clip will have two hazards). Each hazard is worth a maximum of 5 points. The candidate must spot the hazard at the earliest opportunity to gain the highest mark and must get a minimum of 44 out of a possible 75 points to pass. Candidates must pass both parts of the test in the same sitting. Hazard Perception training discs are available for loan during training.
For anyone wanting to learn to drive, 17 - 70 yrs of age we can design a course to suit you and your life style. Theory and Hazard Perception training and a free starter pack (including the Highway code) all included in the price.
We can run semi - intensive courses but only for a maximum of 10 hrs in one week. After an initial assessment your instructor will discuss how many more lessons will be required to get you to test standard and consider a suitable date for your test. You will be required to pay a deposit (half the total amount) at least three weeks in advance during an initial assessment lesson. If you're considering an intensive course speak to us as soon as possible, before you book any time off work, it may be some time before you can start the course.
Pass Plus has been developed by the Driving Standards Agency with the help of insurers and the driving instruction industry. It is designed to improve your skills in areas where you may have little experience and reduce the risk of you being involved in road accidents.
The aim of Pass Plus is to enable the new driver to:

At the start of your practical test you will be asked to read in good daylight (with the aid of glasses or contact lenses if worn) a registration mark fixed to a motor vehicle with letters and figures 79.4 millimetres high at a distance of 20.5 metres (20 metres for a new style number plate). If you fail the eyesight test, you will be unable to take the driving part but will still be able to continue with the wheelchair section.
The practical test:
The practical test will last for about 35 to 40 minutes, depending on traffic. The taxi assessment test is reflective of modern driving practices, the standard is set at a level suitable for the full driving licence holder, which is therefore higher than the learner driver test. During the test you should drive in a natural way, and should not adjust your driving to what you may feel the examiner would expect to see. The examiner will give you clear instructions which you should follow throughout the test. To pass you are permitted to accumulate up to 9 driving faults, 10 or more would be a fail. It is important that you read the Highway Code and be familiar with your vehicle.
